The accelerator cable is the mechanical element responsible for transmitting the movement from the throttle lever of the remote control to the carburetor or throttle body of the outboard motor, directly regulating the fuel flow and, therefore, the revolutions of the propeller. It works within the engine power control system, constituting the physical link between the pilot's commands and the response of the power unit. A cable in poor condition causes an erratic or no response to the accelerator, which can translate into loss of control over the speed of the boat, dangerous situations when maneuvering or the inability to maintain the cruising speed.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a damaged accelerator cable are: hard acceleration or with dead spots, delay in the engine response when moving the lever, excessive play in the throttle control or, in advanced cases, internal breakage of the cable with total loss of acceleration control. It is recommended to inspect the cable during each seasonal maintenance, checking its sheath, the clamping ends and the absence of corrosion or kinks (sharp bends); In vessels with intensive use, preventive replacement every 3-5 seasons avoids navigation breakdowns that are costly and difficult to resolve outside the port.
