The throttle cable is the mechanical element that transmits the movement of the throttle from the control console to the carburetor or throttle body of the outboard engine, allowing the skipper to precisely regulate the engine revolutions. It works within the power and response control system of the propeller, being the physical link between the operator's command and the engine's response. A worn cable, with internal friction or a broken cable causes an erratic throttle response, loss of control over rpm and, in the most serious cases, the engine is blocked at a fixed speed without the possibility of reducing power, which represents a real risk for the safety of the boat. This cable bears the Suzuki reference 63610-96302-000 and replaces the previous reference 63610-94302, being suitable for Suzuki outboard engines of the DT25, DT30 and DT40 series.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of an accelerator cable in poor condition are: hard or jerky movement when operating the throttle, delayed or non-proportional response to the control, accelerator that does not return to idle on its own or visible internal thread with broken or corroded threads. It is recommended to inspect the cable during each seasonal maintenance, checking its route without kinks, the condition of the sheaths and the anchoring terminals at both ends. Replacing the cable preventively at the slightest sign of rigidity or deterioration avoids situations of loss of engine control during navigation, emergency repairs in the water and possible damage to the carburetor due to irregular tensions.
