The throttle cable acts as the direct mechanical link between the throttle control at the helm station and the carburetor or throttle body of the outboard motor, converting the operator's movement into a precise variation of the air-fuel mixture flow rate that supplies the engine. It forms part of the acceleration control system and works in coordination with the throttle lever, the remote control assembly, and the carburetor adjustment elements. With a length of 59.69 cm and part number 5000581 —replacing the previous code 0396161—, this cable is manufactured with the tolerances necessary to ensure a travel path free of slack or friction that allows progressive, predictable, and safe acceleration response. A cable in poor condition can cause the engine to be stuck at a fixed rpm, not respond to throttle changes, or in the most dangerous scenario, lock at full throttle with no possibility of reducing power from the helm station.
