Description

Function and technical context

Teka sealant is a marine-grade sealing compound designed to create durable, watertight joints in boat structures and systems exposed to moisture, salt water and the continuous vibrations of boating. It acts as a barrier against water infiltration in joints of decks, bulkheads, hull accessories and wall passages, areas where a sealing failure can compromise the safety and structural integrity of the vessel. Its formulation is designed to adhere to common materials in nautical construction such as fiberglass, treated wood, metal and composite materials, maintaining the necessary flexibility to absorb the movements and expansions of the hull without cracking or detaching. Poor or deteriorated sealing in these areas can lead to water leaks, structural rot, short circuits in onboard electrical systems or even compromise buoyancy in extreme situations.

When to replace or reapply this product?

The most common symptoms that indicate that the existing sealant has lost its properties are the appearance of moisture spots or puddles in sealed areas, visible bubbles or peeling in the sealing bead, loss of adhesion at the edges or surface cracking after prolonged exposure to UV rays and the marine environment. As a preventive maintenance rule, it is recommended to visually inspect all sealed points at the beginning of each sailing season and reapply the sealant in those areas where deterioration is detected, especially in wall passages, deck accessories and hull-superstructure joints. Intervening preventively before launching the boat avoids costly repairs due to water damage once in use.
