Function and technical context

The aluminum anodes act as cathodic protection of the outboard motor, sacrificing themselves electrochemically to prevent galvanic corrosion in the metal parts of the propulsion group. This kit is designed for Suzuki engines from the 150 to 350 hp range, covering all critical protection points: lower casing, cavitation, mirror and other areas exposed to salt or brackish water. Without anodic protection in good condition, corrosion advances on aluminum and structural stainless steel, compromising the integrity of the engine and generating costly breakdowns that are difficult to reverse. The aluminum version (AL) is indicated for salty and saline waters with high conductivity, being the usual choice in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the anodes need to be replaced is when they have lost between 50% and 70% of their mass due to wear: a practically consumed anode has stopped protecting. As a general guideline, it is recommended to inspect the kit at each beaching or at the beginning of the season, and replace it at least once a year if the boat remains in the water continuously. Changing the complete kit preventively at the beginning of each season is the most common practice among naval mechanics to guarantee total protection of the engine throughout navigation.
