ANODO COLLAR GORI 3P EJE Ø18"-20"(ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The collar anode for GORI three-blade propeller protects the propulsion shaft against galvanic corrosion, a particularly aggressive phenomenon in marine environments where dissimilar metals in contact with seawater generate destructive electrolytic currents. Made of zinc (ZN), it acts as a sacrificial anode: it oxidizes itself to preserve the shaft, propeller and other submerged metal components intact. Its collar design makes it compatible with shafts with a diameter between 18 and 20 mm, adjusting firmly to guarantee continuous electrical contact even under the vibrations of navigation. Without effective cathodic protection in this area, the propeller shaft can suffer pitting, thinning and in serious cases fracture, with the consequences of immobilizing the boat that this implies.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season: when the anode has lost approximately half of its mass or presents a very irregular and disintegrated surface, it is time to replace it without delay. An excessively consumed anode leaves the GORI shaft and propeller unprotected against galvanic corrosion, which can result in visible pitting in the metal, looseness in the shaft adjustment or even damage to the stern bearing. Replacing the anode preventively at the beginning of each season is the practice recommended by naval mechanics to avoid much higher cost repairs when the boat is already in the water.
