Description

Function and technical context

The 35mm diameter lightweight collar shaft anode acts as a cathodic protection element on the vessel's tail shaft, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise attack the metal components of the drive system. Its collar design allows direct and safe mounting on the propeller shaft, protecting it along with the propeller, the bushing and other submerged metal accessories from marine electrolysis. Made of zinc (ZN), it is especially suitable for navigation in salty and brackish waters, where galvanic corrosion is more aggressive. By sacrificing in a controlled manner, this anode preserves the structural and functional integrity of the axle, avoiding pitting, premature wear and costly interventions in the propulsion system. The reference REC9212 corresponds to the version with two screws (2T), which guarantees a firm hold and correct electrical contact on the shaft.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, as below that level they no longer offer effective cathodic protection. Symptoms of a depleted or missing anode include visible pitting on the tail shaft, greenish or whitish discoloration on brass fittings, and in advanced cases, play or corrosion marks in the ferrule area. Preventive replacement is recommended at the beginning of each navigation season or after prolonged wintering in water; Changing the anode before it is completely consumed is the most economical measure to avoid replacing the shaft or propeller.
