Description

Function and technical context

The 35 mm flat aluminum collar is an axial clamping and positioning element that works in the transmission or drive system of the outboard or inboard motor, ensuring that the rotating or sliding components maintain their correct position on the shaft. Its main function is to retain or guide parts on an axis, preventing unwanted longitudinal movements that could compromise the alignment of critical mechanical components. Made of aluminum, it offers a good relationship between structural strength and corrosion resistance in marine environments, where continuous exposure to salt water and humidity constitute the main degradation agents. A collar in poor condition can cause excessive axial play, abnormal vibrations and, ultimately, accelerated wear of adjacent parts or loss of functionality of the mechanical assembly to which it belongs.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn or damaged flat collar are noticeable play in the shaft, metallic or rattling noises during operation, and visible rubbing marks, galvanic corrosion, or deformation on the mating surface. It is recommended to inspect the collar at each seasonal inspection or each time the assembly to which it belongs is dismantled, paying special attention to cracks, ovalization or loss of material due to corrosion. Replacing this component preventively when the first signs of wear are detected prevents major breakdowns that can leave the boat inoperative at the most inopportune moment.
