COLLARIN EJE Ø 34mm STD (MG)
Description
Function and technical context
The 34mm shaft collar is a retaining and supporting component located in the tail drive system or drive shaft, whose mission is to axially fix the drive shaft and prevent unwanted longitudinal displacements during operation. It works closely with the bearings, stuffing box and shaft seals, maintaining the precise alignment necessary for the propeller to efficiently transmit thrust to the hull. Its integrity is critical: a damaged collar or one with excessive clearance can cause abnormal vibration in the shaft, accelerated wear of the adjacent seals and even entry of water into the interior of the hull if the axial displacement compromises the tightness of the stuffing box. The STD (MG) reference indicates that it is the standard measurement for that shaft diameter, guaranteeing the correct dimensional fit without modifications.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn shaft collar are the appearance of noticeable axial play when manually moving the shaft, vibration or knocking transmitted to the hull when sailing at certain revolutions, and irregular or premature wear of the shaft bearings or the stern seal. It is recommended to inspect the collar at each docking or seasonal maintenance, checking for looseness, cracks or signs of galvanic corrosion, especially on boats that operate in salt water. Replacing this element preventively when any visible wear is noticed is much more economical than repairing a damaged axle or a sealing failure while sailing.
