Description

Function and technical context

The full radice anode for 60 mm shaft is a cathodic protection element designed to be installed directly on the tail shaft of the boat, acting as a galvanic sacrifice against electrolytic corrosion. Its function is to protect the submerged metal parts - shaft, propeller and horn - from accelerated oxidation caused by contact between different metals in a conductive medium such as salt or brackish water. Being a complete anode, it includes all the necessary components for a complete and safe installation on the 60 mm axis, guaranteeing uniform protection coverage and optimal electrical contact. If this component is completely consumed or not renewed in time, the shaft and propeller are exposed to galvanic corrosion, which can cause pitting, loss of material and, in serious cases, structural failures in the propulsion line.

When to replace this part?

Shaft anodes should be inspected at the beginning of each nautical season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, without waiting for them to be completely consumed. The symptoms of a depleted or non-existent anode are evident: pitting or reddish corrosion on the shaft, discoloration or visible erosion on the surface of the propeller, and in advanced cases, accelerated wear of the stern tube seals. As a professional rule, it is recommended to replace the radice anode at least once a year or after each maintenance outage, since its preventive replacement is considerably more economical than repairing or replacing a corroded shaft.
