Function and technical context

The IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor measures the temperature of the intake air and sends that signal to the engine control unit (ECU), which uses it to precisely adjust the air-fuel mixture and ignition timing. It works within the electronic engine management system, being a key element to guarantee efficient combustion in each working condition. When this sensor presents erroneous readings or stops working, the ECU loses a critical reference: the result can be difficult starting, excessive fuel consumption, loss of power or irregular operation of the outboard motor.
