Description

Function and technical context

The IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor measures the temperature of the intake air and sends that signal to the engine control unit (ECU), which uses it to precisely adjust the air-fuel mixture and ignition timing. It works within the electronic engine management system, being a key element to guarantee efficient combustion in each working condition. When this sensor presents erroneous readings or stops working, the ECU loses a critical reference: the result can be difficult starting, excessive fuel consumption, loss of power or irregular operation of the outboard motor. Its role is especially critical in electronic injection engines such as the Suzuki DF60 and DF70, where electronic management depends on precise signals from all the intake system sensors.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a faulty IAT sensor include unstable idling, difficulty starting when cold, irregular acceleration or the illumination of the check engine light on the instrument panel. Unlike mechanical wear parts, this type of sensor can fail intermittently before failing completely, making diagnosis difficult if not checked with a diagnostic scanner. It is recommended to check its condition at each seasonal inspection; Replacing it preventively in the event of any symptoms avoids unexpected stops in navigation and costly diagnostics in the workshop.
