Description

Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes are fundamental elements in the galvanic protection of the hulls and submerged metal components of vessels. This 70 mm replacement anode for Beneteau acts as a negative electrode in the electrochemical process, corroding in a controlled manner to protect the noble metal parts of the hull - rudders, shafts, propellers and accessories - against galvanic corrosion produced by the potential difference between different metals in contact with water. Its installation on Beneteau boats guarantees that the degradation falls on the anode and not on structures or components that are more expensive and difficult to replace. Without adequate cathodic protection, deterioration of submerged metal parts can compromise the structural integrity and safety of the vessel.

When to replace this part?

The clearest symptom that a sacrificial anode needs replacement is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when the anode appears noticeably reduced, cracked or disintegrated after visual inspection at the dock, it should be replaced immediately. It is recommended to check and renew the anodes at least once per nautical season—or every time the boat passes through the travelift—since in waters with high salinity or parasitic electrical currents, wear can be significantly faster. Replacing the anode preventively each season is the simplest and most economical measure to avoid corrosion damage to the hull, shaft or propeller, repairs that may be unfeasible on the high seas and very expensive in the workshop.
