The piston kit is one of the most critical components of the engine assembly in a two-stroke outboard: the piston moves inside the cylinder, transforming combustion energy into rotary movement transmitted to the crankshaft. When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate the need to renew the piston are: difficulty starting when cold, notable loss of power or irregular acceleration, high consumption of mixing oil and presence of bluish or whitish smoke in the exhaust. In outboard engines with intensive use, it is recommended to inspect the condition of the piston and rings every 300-400 hours of operation or when the compression measurement shows values ​​below those specified by the manufacturer. Replacing the piston kit preventively during a scheduled inspection is considerably more economical than facing a failure due to seizure while sailing.
