Function and Technical Context

This oil seal acts as a watertight seal in the outboard motor lubrication system, preventing oil from escaping to the outside through shafts or rotating joints. It works directly in the lubrication circuit, maintaining the oil pressure necessary to protect the internal components of the motor. With dimensions of 10 x 45 x 5 mm, this seal is designed to fit with precision in Suzuki DF4, DF5 and DF6 engines (from 2002), as well as in certain Johnson and Evinrude models. If the seal loses its sealing capacity, oil begins to leak, leaving internal components without adequate lubrication, which can result in accelerated wear, seizure of parts and irreversible engine damage.

When to Replace This Part?

The most common symptoms of a deteriorated oil seal are the appearance of stains or pools of oil under the motor, the progressive decrease in oil level with no apparent cause, and in advanced cases, the illumination of the oil pressure warning light. It is recommended to inspect the condition of oil seals at each seasonal service or whenever any leakage is detected in the engine block or shaft area. Replacing the seal preventively at the first sign of leakage avoids major breakdowns that, at sea, can compromise vessel safety and result in costly repairs.
