NGK ZFR6F-11 SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK ZFR6F-11 spark plug is part of the ignition system of the outboard or stationary engine, being responsible for generating the electric spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber. Its design with iridium electrode and fine tip favors precise and stable ignition even in conditions of high humidity, typical of the marine environment. Poor ignition due to a worn or contaminated spark plug causes misfires, noticeable loss of power, increased fuel consumption and irregular emissions. In marine engines, where reliability in navigation is critical, keeping the spark plugs in correct condition is a basic safety measure and not just a performance measure.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate a marine spark plug needs replacement include difficult or irregular starts, abnormal jerking and vibrations at idle, engine flooding under load, and visible soot deposits or erosion on the electrode upon visual inspection. For engines frequently used in marine environments, it is recommended to check the spark plugs every nautical season or approximately every 100 hours of operation, replacing them if they show wear on the electrode, cracks in the insulation or deposits that are not removed cleanly. Changing the spark plugs preventively before the start of the season is a common practice among nautical mechanics to avoid being stopped at sea due to a misfire.
