NGK DPR8EA-9 SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK DPR8EA-9 spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electric spark that initiates the combustion of the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder of the two-stroke engine. It works within the ignition system, acting as an ignition point in each engine work cycle. A bad spark plug causes incomplete or irregular combustion, which results in loss of power, increased fuel consumption and difficulties starting the outboard engine. The anti-interference resistor integrated into the DPR design protects the boat's electronic systems from electromagnetic interference generated during power-up.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn or defective spark plug in a marine engine include difficult cold starting, unstable idle, jerking or misfiring under load, and visible carbon deposits or erosion on the electrode. It is recommended that the spark plugs be inspected at each seasonal service and replaced every 100 hours of operation or once a year, whichever comes first, following the engine manufacturer's instructions. Changing the spark plug preventively before each nautical season is the most economical measure to ensure reliable ignition and avoid a breakdown at sea.
