The NGK BR8HIX spark plug belongs to the NGK Iridium IX range and is part of the ignition system for four-stroke petrol outboard engines. Its function is to generate the electrical spark necessary to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber at the precise moment of the engine cycle, guaranteeing complete and efficient combustion. The central electrode made of iridium has a reduced diameter that concentrates the electric discharge, providing a more stable and focused spark even under conditions of high thermal stress. The thermal range 8 (cold classification) makes it especially suitable for high displacement engines and high thermal load, such as nautical thrusters up to 250 hp. A failure in this component directly compromises combustion, with consequences ranging from loss of power to the engine becoming unusable while sailing.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a damaged spark plug in an outboard engine include difficult or irregular starting, loss of speed and jerks during cruising, increased petrol consumption, and vibration or rattling at idle caused by misfires in a cylinder.
