NGK BKR6ES-11 SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK BKR6ES-11 spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electric spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinders of outboard and stationary petrol engines. It works in the engine ignition system, operating in a high temperature and pressure environment within the combustion chamber. Its correct operation is decisive to achieve complete and efficient combustion: a spark plug in poor condition causes misfires, excessive fuel consumption, notable loss of power and difficulty starting the engine, especially when cold. The reference BKR6ES-11, manufactured by NGK, is widely used in nautical applications due to its reliability and corrosion-resistant electrode design in marine environments.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that the spark plug must be changed are: difficult starting or several attempts, jerks or power losses at different speeds, abnormally high fuel consumption, unstable idle or engine that stalls frequently. For petrol outboard and marine engines, it is recommended to replace the spark plugs every 100 hours of operation or at the beginning of each boating season, whichever comes first. Changing spark plugs preventively is one of the lowest-cost interventions that has the greatest impact on the performance and reliability of the engine at sea, avoiding unexpected breakdowns far from port.
