The GS38120 "V" engine mount is part of the boat's mounting and transmission system, acting as a connecting element between the engine block and the hull bedplate. Its main function is to absorb and dissipate the vibrations generated during the operation of the engine, preventing them from propagating towards the structure of the ship and compromising both the comfort on board and the integrity of the structural components. In addition, this support guarantees the correct alignment of the drive shaft with the engine, an essential requirement for the propeller to work efficiently and without undue lateral loads on the shaft bearings. If the support deteriorates or loses its elastic properties, progressive misalignments may appear that accelerate the wear of the shaft hub, the flexible coupling and the engine supports themselves, leading to costly breakdowns in the propulsion system.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn engine mount are noticeable increased vibrations in the hull and console, knocking or resonating noises at certain revs, and a visible misalignment between the driveshaft and engine coupling. It is recommended to inspect the condition of the support during each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to the vulcanized rubber: cracks, excessive crushing or hardening of the elastomer are unequivocal signs of immediate replacement. Preventatively replacing the bracket before severe misalignment occurs prevents damage to the hub, shaft and coupling, repairs that more than multiply the cost of a simple bracket replacement.
