The water pipe is a fundamental component of the cooling system of Mercury, Mariner and MerCruiser engines, responsible for directing the flow of water from the inlet to the cooling galleries of the engine block. This duct transports the marine coolant necessary to evacuate the heat generated during combustion, preventing overheating of the engine and maintaining operating temperatures within optimal ranges. Its correct operation is critical: any obstruction, crack or deterioration compromises the circulation of water, causing dangerous increases in temperature that can lead to severe damage to the engine, loss of power and unexpected stops in navigation.

When to replace this part?

Water tubes require periodic inspection during each seasonal inspection, especially if you boat in waters with high sediment or mineral deposits that accelerate corrosion and blockage of tubes. Symptoms of failure include progressive engine overheating, red temperature indicators, water leaks at connection joints and visible loss of coolant. Preventive replacement is highly recommended every 4-5 years or after sailing in extreme conditions, as it prevents unexpected breakdowns at sea and significantly prolongs the useful life of the engine.
