The transom anode is a critical cathodic protection component on Mercury, Mariner outboard motors, and MerCruiser propulsion systems. Made of high purity aluminum, it acts as a controlled sacrifice to prevent galvanic corrosion that occurs when different metals come into contact in a saline environment. This anode is mounted in the transom (transom) area, an area constantly exposed to seawater, and gradually dissolves in place of the base metal of the engine, preventing severe oxidation on the aluminum structure of the engine block and critical internal components.

When to replace this part?
