The Mercury 806105 sacrificial anode is an essential component in the cathodic protection of MerCruiser engine cooling systems. Installed in the submerged areas of the engine, this anode acts as an electrochemical barrier against galvanic corrosion that occurs when different metals come into contact with salt water. Its presence prevents the noble materials of the engine (such as bronze, copper and stainless steel) from suffering accelerated oxidation, preserving the structural integrity of the water passages and cooling ducts. Without this protection, galvanic corrosion would rapidly degrade submerged components, compromising the cooling system and dramatically shortening the life of the marine engine.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes should be replaced periodically, preferably at the beginning of each boating season or after extended periods of mooring in saltwater.
