Function and technical context

This membrane kit is part of the fuel supply system in small displacement two-stroke Suzuki outboard engines. The membranes work inside the fuel pump, acting as flexible valves that generate the flow necessary to transfer the fuel mixture from the tank to the carburetor. When these sheets lose elasticity or present cracks, the pump stops priming correctly, causing fuel shortages, unexpected engine stops or erratic starts that can leave the boat without propulsion while underway. Keeping the membranes in perfect condition is, therefore, essential to guarantee the reliability of the feeding system in the DT8, DT9.9 and DT15 models.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of deterioration of the fuel pump membranes are: difficulty starting when cold, loss of speed at full load, engine jerks or cuts that disappear when the acceleration is reduced, and insufficient fuel in the carburetor tank. It is recommended to inspect the membranes during each seasonal maintenance and to proceed with their preventive replacement every two or three years, since the rubber dries out and cracks over time regardless of the actual use of the engine. Renewing the kit before the first symptoms appear avoids breakdowns at sea and costly emergency interventions.
