Description
Function and Technical Context
The water pump impeller is the central rotating component of the seawater cooling system in outboard and stationary engines. Manufactured from flexible rubber, its vanes bend and recover with each rotation to displace water from the through-hull intake to the cooling circuit of the block and cylinder head. Without a properly functioning impeller, coolant flow is drastically reduced, causing overheating, loss of power and, in severe cases, cylinder head warping or engine seizure. This impeller, referenced as 775518 / REC775518, is compatible with Mercury, MerCruiser and OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) equipment, covering a wide range of marine applications.
When to Replace This Part?
The most common symptoms of a worn impeller are reduced or absent cooling water discharge from the telltale fitting, temperature warning light activation or visible loss of engine performance under load. The rubber vanes harden, crack or break with use and heat exposure, especially after periods of dry storage. It is recommended to replace the impeller every 200-300 hours of operation or every two seasons as preventive maintenance; replacing it ashore is simple and economical compared to an overheating failure at sea.
