KAMEWA ANODE

Function and technical context

The Kamewa sacrificial anode is a cathodic protection element designed to safeguard the submerged metal parts of the vessel against galvanic corrosion. It acts as a sacrificial metal, degrading in a controlled manner to preserve higher value components such as the propeller, axle or transmission housing. This type of anode is especially critical in marine environments where the difference in electrical potential between different metals accelerates electrochemical corrosion. Without active and well-maintained cathodic protection, stainless steel, bronze or aluminum powertrain components can suffer serious structural damage in a matter of weeks.

When to replace this part?

Sacrificial anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, since below that level the cathodic protection is no longer effective. Clear symptoms of a depleted anode are visible corrosion on the propeller, pitting on the tail shaft, or erosion on the transmission housing. It is recommended to change the Kamewa anode (ref. TEN02458) preventively at each annual beaching to avoid costly repairs to propulsion components.
