Description
Function and Technical Context
This O-ring acts as a sealing gasket at critical points in the outboard motor, sealing connections between components to prevent water, oil, or fuel leaks depending on the installation location. It typically works in the cooling systems, lubrication systems, or motor housing, maintaining internal pressure and preventing the entry of external elements that could damage internal components. When the O-ring rubber hardens, cracks, or loses elasticity, the seal becomes ineffective and leaks may appear that compromise safe motor operation. Its replacement is a simple but essential intervention to ensure the integrity of the mechanical assembly. Ref. 326849, compatible with Mercury/Mariner/MerCruiser references 25-39695, 39695 and 846361, as well as OMC 0326849, 0509009 and 326849.
When to Replace This Part?
The most common symptoms of a deteriorated O-ring are the appearance of moisture spots, water or oil dripping around the gasket, loss of pressure in the cooling circuit, or abnormal resistance when removing the part during maintenance. It is recommended to inspect and replace O-rings with each disassembly of the component where they are housed, as the rubber loses properties with heat and repeated work cycles even if no visible cracks are present. Changing them preventively at each seasonal service avoids unexpected breakdowns and much more costly repairs while underway.
