This cover acts as a hermetic sealing element in the block or structural assembly of the outboard motor, sealing internal cavities that must remain watertight against saltwater ingress, dirt and external contaminants. Its purpose is to preserve the integrity of the compartments housing sensitive components of the cooling and ventilation system, ensuring that internal circuits operate under the conditions specified by the manufacturer. A failure in this component can result in progressive leakage into critical motor zones, promoting internal corrosion, moisture accumulation and accelerated deterioration of adjacent parts. Breakage or cracking of the cover without timely intervention can lead to more serious failures affecting the entire propulsion unit, with consequent repair costs and vessel immobilization.

When to replace this part?

The most frequent indicators pointing to the need to replace this cover are the appearance of visible cracks on its surface, deformations from impact or aging of the plastic material, and the presence of moisture, salt efflorescence or residue in areas that should remain completely dry. Since continuous exposure to the marine environment—UV radiation, thermal cycles and salt spray—accelerates the degradation of this type of component, a detailed visual inspection is recommended at each seasonal maintenance interval.
