ISOTHERMAL BOILER ANODE
Description
Function and technical context
The Isoterm sacrificial anode for onboard water heater (boiler) with reference TEN01451 is part of the cathodic protection system of the domestic hot water tank installed on the boat. Its function is to protect the metallic interior of the boiler against galvanic corrosion, acting as an active electrode that is preferably consumed instead of the walls of the tank and its connections. This electrochemical process is especially aggressive in marine environments, where the salinity of the water and the presence of heterogeneous metals accelerate deterioration. Without a healthy anode, the tank can suffer internal punctures, leaks or contamination of the drinking water on board, leading to high-cost repairs or complete replacement of the equipment.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a depleted boiler anode are the appearance of water with a metallic or rusty smell, rust stains in the hot water and, in advanced cases, small leaks in the tank. The boiler anodes must be inspected at the beginning of each nautical season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, or at least once a year when sailing in salt water. Replacing the TEN01451 anode preventively is the most economical measure to extend the life of the Isoterm heater and ensure clean sanitary water on board.
