Description
Function and technical context
The intake gasket is the critical sealing component that ensures tightness between the intake manifold and the engine cylinder head. This part works in the fuel and air supply system, subjected to constant cycles of pressure and temperature. Its correct operation is essential to avoid air-fuel mixture leaks that would cause loss of power, unstable idle and contamination of the crankcase oil. A deteriorated gasket would compromise the thermal and mechanical efficiency of the sterndrive.
When to replace this part?
The intake gasket should be inspected during each seasonal service and replaced if it shows cracks, deformation or signs of fuel leaks around the manifold. The most obvious symptom is an irregular idle, difficulty starting or a slight smell of petrol in the intake manifold area. Making the change preventively during major maintenance tasks prevents small leaks from becoming costly repairs while sailing.
