Function and technical context

The intake gasket is a critical component of the Yamaha outboard engine fuel system that hermetically seals the connection between the intake manifold and the cylinder head. Its function is to guarantee that the air and fuel mixture reaches the combustion chambers without leaks, maintaining the pressure inside the inlet duct. When this gasket loses its tightness, uncontrolled air leaks occur that impoverish the mixture, causing loss of power, idle instability and a significant increase in fuel consumption.

When to replace this part?

A worn intake gasket presents very characteristic symptoms: abnormal engine vibrations at rest, difficulty starting when cold, whistling sounds in the intake manifold area and a noticeable drop in revolutions under load. This type of gasket should be inspected at each seasonal inspection and replaced preventively after 500-600 hours of operation or when signs of loss of compression are detected. Changing it preventively during maintenance work prevents further damage to the cylinders and significantly prolongs the useful life of the engine.
