ANODE PLATE 600x125x65
Description
Function and technical context
Plate anodes are cathodic protection elements designed to be electrochemically sacrificed in place of the metal surfaces of the hull, propeller, shafts and other submerged components of the vessel. This zinc plate anode, with reference TEN00278E and dimensions 600x125x65 mm, acts as a negative electrode in the galvanic pair that is formed when different metals come into contact with salt or brackish water, diverting electrolytic corrosion towards itself. Its installation on the hull or on metal structures exposed to the marine environment interrupts the galvanic corrosion process that would otherwise progressively degrade the base metal of the boat. An anode in poor condition or absent leaves critical areas of the hull and appendages unprotected, accelerating structural deterioration and compromising the integrity of the vessel in the medium term.
When to replace this part?
The clearest symptom that a plate anode has exhausted its useful life is visible mass loss: when the anode has consumed more than 50% of its initial volume, it has ceased to offer effective protection and must be replaced immediately. The inspection of the anodes should be carried out at least once a season, coinciding with the annual beaching, although in areas with high water conductivity or with boats that remain in the water for a long time, a semi-annual inspection may be necessary. Replacing the anode preventively, before it is completely used up, is the most economical measure to avoid costly repairs to the hull or metal appendages in the next sailing period.
