Description
Function and technical context
This exhaust gasket constitutes a critical sealing element in the exhaust manifold of Yamaha outboard engines, preventing combustion gas leaks between the engine block and the discharge pipe. It works in the exhaust system, exposed to high temperatures and constant expansion-contraction cycles during engine operation. Its deterioration or degradation allows seawater to enter the internal chambers of the engine, causing corrosion, loss of compression and failure of the engine block, a situation that is expensive and difficult to repair in navigation.
When to replace this part?
Signs of failure include abnormal vibrations, water entering the crankcase, progressive loss of power and visible smoke or liquid leaks in the manifold area. It is recommended to check the condition of this gasket during each seasonal maintenance and replace it preventively if corrosion, deformation or degradation of the elastomeric material is observed. Changing the gasket preventively before starting the boating season prevents serious engine breakdowns in open water and prolongs the life of the block.
