This base gasket is part of the Yamaha engine's watertight sealing system, located at the interface between the cylinder head and the engine block. Its mission is to guarantee absolute tightness in the combustion chamber and cooling ducts, preventing leaks of combustion gases and coolant. The deterioration of this gasket compromises the structural integrity of the engine, causing loss of compression, entry of water into the combustion chamber and, consequently, accelerated internal corrosion and significant loss of power in the propulsion of the boat.

When to replace this part?

The base gasket should be replaced when symptoms such as loss of compression verified by pressure testing, visible coolant leaks at the base of the engine, or presence of water in the oil (milky emulsion on the dipstick) are detected. Although there is no fixed hourly interval for this component, it is advisable to inspect its condition during each seasonal maintenance, especially if the engine has been idle or exposed to extreme temperature cycles. Replacing this gasket preventively during deep engine overhaul operations avoids costly repairs and immobilization of the boat in adverse conditions.
