This 12 mm fuel non-return valve is part of the supply circuit of the outboard or inboard engine, acting as a unidirectional element that guarantees that the fuel flow advances only in the correct direction towards the carburetor or injection. Its mission is to prevent fuel from flowing back into the tank or into previous sections of the fuel line when the engine stops or during pressure variations typical of the operation of the fuel system. A failure in this valve can result in cold starting difficulties, loss of pressure in the fuel line, unexpected engine stops or irregular acceleration problems, directly compromising the reliability of the boat in navigation. The most common symptoms of a damaged fuel non-return valve are difficult starting after a period of inactivity - especially when cold -, the need to repeatedly bleed the system before getting the engine to start, and drops in speed during navigation due to irregular fuel supply. It is recommended to inspect the non-return valve at each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to possible cracks in the valve body, hardening of the internal elastomer or visible fuel leaks at the connections. Replacing it preventively at the slightest sign of failure avoids being left without propulsion at sea and protects other components of the fuel system, such as the fuel pump, from secondary damage.
