Description

Function and technical context

This petrol filter with water separator works in the fuel supply system of outboard and stationary petrol engines, acting as a dual-function barrier: it retains solid particles of up to 10 microns and separates emulsified water that can contaminate the fuel. The presence of water in the fuel line causes misfires, power losses, internal corrosion in the fuel pump and injectors or carburetors. Working with a filtration capacity of 10 microns, it protects the most sensitive components of the circuit against fine particles that low quality filters do not retain. Its installation in the fuel line between the tank and the primary pump is essential to ensure a clean and dry supply that prolongs the life of the engine.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a saturated water separator filter are: difficult starting or failure when starting when cold, irregular engine idling, power loss under load and visible presence of water or sediment in the transparent filter bowl. As a general rule of preventive maintenance, it is recommended to check and replace the filter element every 100 hours of navigation or at the beginning of each season, whichever comes first. Changing the filter preventively is the most economical measure to avoid a breakdown due to fuel contamination at sea, where the consequences can be much more expensive than the cost of the replacement.
