Description
Function and technical context
This 5/16" connection petrol filter is installed in the engine feed line, between the fuel tank and the carburetor or injectors. Its function is to retain particles, water and sediments that can contaminate the fuel before it reaches the injection or carburetion system. A dirty or clogged filter reduces the flow of fuel, causing loss of power, engine jerks and difficulty starting, especially in boats that navigate in waters with sediment or after prolonged periods of storage.
When to replace this part?
It is recommended to check and visually inspect the fuel filter every boating season or every 100 hours of engine operation. Symptoms of fouling include rough running, difficulty starting when cold, drop in revolutions under load and abnormal fuel consumption. Preventatively replacing the filter before it becomes completely clogged prevents unexpected breakdowns during navigation and protects the injectors from damage by particles.
