Description

Function and technical context

This 3/8" hydraulic fitting with a length of 12 mm acts as a watertight connection element between pipes, hoses and components within the fuel, cooling and fluid transfer circuits of the marine engine. It works directly in the fluid conduction system, being the critical point where the continuity and tightness of the circuit is guaranteed under real navigation operating pressure. Its cylindrical thread ensures a reliable seal that prevents fuel or coolant leaks, avoiding risk situations such as engine shortages or overheating due to loss of coolant. In engine compartments with limited space, its compact dimensional configuration allows installation without interfering with other adjacent components. A poor coupling can compromise the integrity of the entire hydraulic circuit, with consequences ranging from loss of power to complete stoppage of the propeller while sailing.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of deterioration in this type of hydraulic fittings are the appearance of microdrops or stains of fuel or coolant at the connection points, the detection of a fuel smell in the engine compartment and the progressive loss of pressure in the circuit. It is recommended to visually inspect all couplings and fittings during each seasonal maintenance, especially after wintering, since the cycles of contraction and thermal expansion accelerate the wear of the seal. Preventively replacing a damaged fitting or one with signs of corrosion prevents major breakdowns at sea, where a fuel leak can become both a mechanical and safety risk on board.
