Function and technical context

This exhaust gasket acts as a watertight seal between the exhaust manifold outlet and exhaust pipe on Mercury and Yamaha marine engines. Its function is to prevent combustion gases and cooling water from leaking into the engine, maintaining the integrity of the cooling system and preventing the entry of salt water into critical areas. Deterioration of this seal causes loss of performance, accelerated internal corrosion and possible breakdowns in adjacent components of the exhaust system.

When to replace this part?
