Function and technical context

This gasket kit for Johnson/Evinrude E-TEC 4-cylinder outboard engines groups together the sealing elements necessary to guarantee correct sealing between the different sections of the engine. The gaskets act as a barrier between metal surfaces subjected to pressure, temperature and vibration, preventing leaks of combustion gases, coolant or lubrication oil. A poor seal at any of these points can lead to loss of compression, entry of water into the lubrication circuit or overheating of the engine unit. This kit is designed specifically for the E75 and E90 CV models of the E-TEC range manufactured from 2004 onwards, guaranteeing exact dimensional correspondence with the ducts, cylinder heads and engine covers of these engines.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate deterioration of the gaskets in an outboard engine are: presence of whitish foam in the oil (a sign of mixing with water), bluish or whitish smoke coming out of the exhaust, loss of compression detected in the cylinder analysis or moisture marks around the joints between the covers and the block. It is recommended to check the condition of all gaskets at each engine disassembly for major maintenance, especially after periods of intensive use or after overheating. Replacing the entire kit preventively during a thorough check prevents water breakdowns that are considerably more expensive to repair.
