ANODE NANNI MERCEDES
Description
Function and technical context
The sacrificial anode is the component responsible for protecting the submerged metal parts of the engine and boat against galvanic corrosion. Made from an alloy with high electrochemical reactivity, it acts as a negative electrode in the galvanic cell that is formed when dissimilar metals are immersed in water, attracting corrosion to itself and thus preserving the critical parts of the Mercedes-based Nanni engine. Without this element, salt or brackish water would directly attack the propellers, shafts, exchanger anodes and metal casings, causing irreversible damage to high-cost components. The TEN02102 anode is specifically designed for the geometry and attachment points of Nanni engines equipped with a Mercedes block, ensuring correct electrical contact and a season-appropriate sacrificial surface.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a depleted anode are the appearance of visible corrosion on adjacent metal parts, pitting on the shaft or propeller, and wear of the anode itself greater than 50% of its mass. It is recommended to inspect the anode at least once per nautical season and replace it when it has lost approximately half of its volume, regardless of the time in service, since its useful life depends directly on the aggressiveness of the water and the mooring time. Replacing it preventively at the beginning of each season is the practice most recommended by naval mechanics to avoid corrosion damage to much higher cost components.
