Description

Function and technical context

The RACR90S 2 micron filter element acts as a precision barrier within the fuel supply system, retaining contaminating particles, sediments and water residues circulating with the diesel or petrol before they reach the injectors or fuel pump. It works integrated into the filter fitting, which is the common water separator and fuel filter assembly in nautical installations of marine engines from different manufacturers. Its filtration threshold of 2 microns places it in the high efficiency range, especially protecting precision injection components against deposits that, although microscopic, are enough to cause partial blockages or premature wear. An element in poor condition directly compromises the quality of the fuel that reaches the engine, with direct consequences on the performance, consumption and useful life of the injection train.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a clogged or degraded coupling element are: costly starts or idle failures, progressive loss of power at cruising speed, engine jerks or cuts under load and increased fuel consumption without apparent cause. For 2 micron elements installed on boats in regular use, replacement is recommended every season or every 100-200 hours of navigation, depending on the conditions of the fuel used and the quality of the tank. Changing the element preventively at the beginning of the season is the most recommended practice to avoid breakdowns in the injection system far from the port, where a repair is considerably more expensive.
