The most common symptoms of head gasket deterioration include persistent white smoke from the exhaust, bubbles in the coolant reservoir, loss of compression detected in the cylinder test, or the presence of chocolate emulsion in the engine oil. In marine engines subjected to intensive use, it is recommended to inspect this component every time the cylinder head is disassembled for any reason, and to systematically replace it if there is any sign of leakage or after cylinder head grinding operations.
