Description

Function and technical context

The Champion L82C spark plug is an essential component of the ignition system in petrol boat engines, responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture within the combustion chamber. Its correct operation guarantees complete and efficient combustion, which directly translates into engine performance, optimal fuel consumption and reliable starts. When a spark plug degrades or fails, the engine can experience misfires, incomplete combustion and a noticeable increase in fuel consumption, in addition to accelerating the deterioration of other components of the ignition system. The Champion L82C reference is designed to offer a consistent and long-lasting spark in the demanding conditions of the marine environment, where humidity and temperature variations are constant.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn or defective spark plug include difficulty starting when cold, jerking or loss of power at different speeds, irregular engine vibrations (rattling), increased fuel consumption and, in advanced cases, the inability to maintain idle speed. In petrol marine engines, it is recommended to inspect the spark plugs during each seasonal maintenance and replace them, as a general rule, every 100 hours of navigation or annually, whichever comes first. Performing the change preventively, before failures appear, avoids unforeseen breakdowns at sea and protects the ignition system as a whole.
