The power pack is the central component of the electronic ignition system in OMC outboard engines, responsible for generating and distributing high-voltage electrical impulses that activate the ignition coils at the precise moment of the combustion cycle. It works in close coordination with the position sensor, the stator and the rectifier to ensure a correct spark in each cylinder at any engine speed. A failure in this module causes partial or total spark loss, which results in difficult starts, irregular operation at different RPMs or sudden engine shutdown during navigation. Reference 584035 (0584035) replaces earlier references 583471 and 584034, consolidating ignition reliability in the high-output Johnson and Evinrude series.

When to Replace This Part?

The most common symptoms of a defective power pack are: engine that will not start or starts with difficulty, intermittent ignition failures at full load, misfires or hesitation at mid-to-high RPM and sudden shutdowns with no apparent fuel system cause. Unlike mechanical wear components, this electronic module does not have a defined replacement interval by hours, but it should be inspected at each seasonal service, especially if the vessel operates in high-humidity environments or has suffered electrical circuit voltage spikes.
