Function and technical context

This small hard grain brush is designed for abrasive cleaning of metal surfaces on marine engines and boat components, removing corrosion deposits, carbon deposits, gasket remains and rust in hard-to-reach areas. Its usual use is framed in surface preparation tasks before applying sealants, new gaskets or anti-corrosion treatments, being especially useful in cylinder heads, thermostat housings, exhaust flanges and distribution covers. Poor brushing prior to gasket assembly can compromise sealing, cause coolant or oil leaks, and lead to serious breakdowns requiring costly repair.

When to replace this part?

The bristles of a hard grain brush lose abrasive effectiveness with continued use: when it is observed that the fibers are crushed, bent or with irregular wear, the tool no longer guarantees homogeneous cleaning of the surface. It is recommended to check the condition of the brush at each seasonal maintenance intervention and replace it if it shows visible signs of wear, as working with a brush in poor condition can leave embedded residue or scratch critical fitting surfaces. Always having a brush in good condition in the tool kit on board avoids improvisations during repairs in port or stranded.
