Function and technical context

The thru-hull is the sealing accessory that allows the passage of a hose or pipe through the hull of the boat, guaranteeing that the joint is completely airtight and prevents the entry of water into the interior of the boat. This model, made of chrome-plated plastic, is specifically designed for installations located above the waterline, where the hydrostatic pressure is lower and the chrome aesthetic finish complements visible areas of the hull. Its internal diameter of 19 mm (3/4") makes it compatible with standard ventilation, bilge, wet exhaust system hoses or auxiliary circuits that require passing through the hull in the surface area. When to replace this part?

Chrome-plated plastic thru-hulls should be inspected at each seasonal maintenance, paying special attention to the appearance of cracks, deformations, loss of chrome plating with visible corrosion on the surface, or any signs of water seepage around the installation perimeter. Hardening or deterioration of the associated sealing gasket is also indicative of the need for replacement, since a gasket in poor condition nullifies the tightness of the assembly even if the thru-hull itself is intact. Preventively replacing the thru-hull at the slightest sign of deterioration is the most prudent decision, since a breakdown during navigation can lead to water ingress that is impossible to control without access to a shipyard.
