Description

Function and technical context

The thru-hull with integrated spigot (inlet) is the watertight connection element between the hull of the boat and the interior pipe or hose system, allowing the controlled passage of fluids—seawater, cooling water or bilge—without compromising the integrity of the hull. Made of AISI 316 stainless steel, it offers superior resistance to galvanic corrosion and oxidation in aggressive marine environments, both in saltwater and freshwater. The 19 mm barb with 1/2" thread facilitates the direct connection of standard hoses without additional intermediate pieces, reducing possible leak points in the installation. A thru-hull in poor condition compromises the watertightness of the hull and can cause uncontrolled entry of water, with critical consequences for the safety of the boat.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a deteriorated thru-hull include persistent moisture or small puddles in bilges without apparent cause, visible corrosion on the body or fitting threads, leaks in the seal between the thru-hull and the hull, or difficulty operating the associated seacock. It is recommended to visually inspect all thru-hulls at each docking or seasonal tune-up, checking the state of the sealing, the absence of corrosion and the correct attachment of the connected hoses. Preventively replacing a thru-hull in poor condition before launching the boat avoids serious navigation breakdowns that can put both the crew and the boat itself at risk.
