Function and technical context

The thru-hull with spigot is a nautical plumbing accessory that allows you to connect a cooling, bilge or seawater circuit hose directly to the hull of the boat, guaranteeing a watertight connection between the inside and outside of the boat. The integrated barb – also called a rattail fitting – facilitates secure clamping of the hose, eliminating the need for an additional piece. Made of chrome-plated brass with high resistance to marine corrosion, this 1" threaded thru-hull with 30 mm spigot is designed for installations that require long-lasting tightness in saltwater, freshwater or mixed water environments. When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate that the thru-hull needs to be checked or replaced are: appearance of humidity or dripping in the bilge without apparent cause, visible corrosion on the body of the fitting or in the threaded area, deformation or cracking of the brass after impacts or thermal expansion cycles, and difficulty in tightening or loosening the hose connection. It is recommended to visually inspect all thru-hulls during each seasonal maintenance and, as a preventive rule, replace any element that shows signs of corrosion or wear before launching, since a leak in navigation can be much more expensive and dangerous to manage than a scheduled replacement in the shipyard.
