Thru Hull Scupper Brass 3/4"
Description
Function and technical context
A brass thru-hull is a sealing accessory that passes through the hull of the boat to allow the passage of water, whether as a sea intake, bilge drain or deck scupper, maintaining the structural integrity of the hull at the point of penetration. It works within the boat's water management system, acting as a connecting element between the exterior and the internal drainage or cooling circuits. Brass offers much higher resistance to marine corrosion than ferrous materials, making it a proven choice in saltwater and freshwater applications. A thru-hull in poor condition, with advanced corrosion or without adequate sealing, can cause uncontrolled water entry that compromises the buoyancy and safety of the crew. Its 3/4" thread allows direct connection with standard hoses and fittings of that size, facilitating installation in renovations or repairs of the drainage system.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate the need to replace a brass thru-hull are the appearance of visible vertigo or galvanic corrosion on the thread or body, small leaks around the seal, difficulty closing or opening the associated passage valve, or deformation of the material due to fatigue or impact. It is recommended to inspect all the boat's thru-hulls at each seasonal docking, checking the tightness, the state of the sealing with nautical putty and the absence of pits in the brass. Replacing a damaged thru-hull preventively in the shipyard is significantly cheaper and safer than dealing with a leak in navigation.
