Female/Female Pipe Elbow Brass 2 1/2" 90º
Description
Function and technical context
This brass female/female elbow with a 90° angle and a measurement of 2½ inches allows you to change the direction of the pipe layout in nautical installations, redirecting the flow of water, fuel or other fluids in a tight and safe way. Being a piece of brass, it offers superior resistance to marine corrosion compared to carbon steel, being especially suitable for seawater cooling circuits, bilge systems, on-board sanitary installations and fresh water pipes in pleasure boats and work boats. The double female connection facilitates direct connection to pipe or male fittings without the need for additional adapters, simplifying assembly and reducing possible leak points. An elbow in poor condition—cracked, corroded, or with deteriorated threads—can cause fluid leaks that compromise the operation of the system and even the safety of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate a brass elbow needs to be replaced are: visible moisture or dripping at the joints, greenish galvanic oxidation deposits around the thread, or difficulty achieving a tight seal even when applying PTFE tape or sealant. In marine installations, it is recommended to visually inspect all threaded fittings and elbows at each seasonal tune-up, paying special attention to areas where brass contacts metals of different electrochemical potential. Preventively replacing a damaged elbow before launching avoids unexpected navigation breakdowns and possible damage due to flooding inside the hull.
